BOX SCORE
BLOOMSBURG—
Amanda Riley (Tannersville, Pocono Mountain East) scored one goal and added one assist to lead the Bloomsburg University field hockey team to a 2-1 win over Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon.
Bloomsburg dominated the first half of the game holding a 15-3 edge in shots on goals and 14-2 in penalty corners, but it was the Rock that converted one of its few opportunities into a goal.
On a scramble in front of the goal Gabrielle Malischak for Slippery Rock was able to slip one past Huskies goalie
Meghan Hollenbach (Blandon, Fleetwood) and put the Rock on top 1-0. Bloomsburg did have a stretch late in the first half with four penalty corners in a two minute stretch, but could not convert.
In the second half of play the Huskies again controlled play getting five penalty corners in the first seven minutes of play. In the 44th minute the Huskies finally broke through and scored when
Lauren McGinley (Wilkes-Barre, Coughlin)scored off a Riley assist.
The Huskies then wasted little time in going on top with Riley scoring unassisted just over a minute later to make it a 2-1 game.
From there the Bloomsburg midfield and defense did its job of controlling play and limiting the Rock's opportunities in its offensive end and not allowing a shot on goal in the second half.
Bloomsburg goes to 7-2 with the win, while the Rock falls to 1-8. The Huskies play at CW Post on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m.
