Women's Tennis Advances in PSAC Championships

SHIPPENSBURG – The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team had several members participate in the first day of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Individual Championships hosted by Shippensburg University. It was a big day for Michelle Perez (Center Valley, Southern Lehigh) who advanced over no. 3 Axelle Fernandez to play in the semi-championships tomorrow, October 10.

In the individuals bracket, Perez cruised past Kutztown's Emily Wesoloski in the first round [6-0, 6-0]. The freshman advanced [6-1, 6-1] with a second round victory over Shippensburg's Hannah Lolley. Perez went on to defeat Fernandez [6-0, 3-6 (10-4)] in the third round. 

Perez will compete against no. 2 Slippery Rock's Sarah Lynch tomorrow in the semi-finals.

 Laura Sullivan
(Dingman's Ferry, Delaware Valley)
won her first match over Slippery Rock's Lizzy Yestiskul [6-0, 6-0]. In the second round, Sullivan lost to no.1 Anna Pieschl [0-6, 0-6] from University of California, PA.

Emily Palko (McMurray, Peters Township) also advanced through the first round of the individual's bracket with a win over East Stroudsburg's Katie D'Ambrosia [6-4, 6-4]. Palko lost [2-6, 2-6] in the second round to Fernandez from University of California, PA.

For the doubles bracket, Palko and Perez lost after the first round to Slippery Rock's Sarah Lynch and Dunja Drmac [5-8].
