Women's Cross Country Team Places 7th in NCAA Atlantic Regional

BLOOMSBURG –  Katie Filemyr (Willow Grove, Bishop McDevitt) led the Huskies with a 19th-place finish and earned a All-Regional selection as the Bloomsburg University women's cross country team concluded their season finishing in seventh overall at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regionals held at Cary, North Carolina on Saturday morning.

A total of 26 teams competed, as Bloomsburg totaled 239 points. Shippensburg placed first on the day and finished with 33 points. Shippensburg's Neely Spence took home first place for the Lady Raiders, touching the finish line at 20:46.

Filemyr, who has competed well this season, finished the race in a time of 23:21. Katie Meck (Dillsburg, Northern) was Bloomsburg's second-place finisher, posting a 22nd-place time of 23:34. Samantha Matthews (Windsor, Glenelg) crossed the finish line for the Huskies number three, running the course in 24:22 and finishing 54th.

Kaitlyn McShay (Springfield, Cardinal O'Hara) crossed the finish line at 24:46, ending the day placing fourth for the Huskies and 69th overall. Martina Drew (Langhorne, Neshaminy) rounded out the top five for Bloomsburg, finishing in a time of 25:00, placing fifth for the Huskies and 77th overall. 
Courtney Werner (Hudson, OH, Hudson) (25:26) and Caitlin Heller (Bloomsburg, Indian Valley)(22:27) rounded out the top seven for the Huskies.

The women matched their team finish from two weeks ago, and beat conference foes IUP, Mansfield, Lock Haven, WCU, and CalU, which was a good way to end our season with," says head coach Bernie Empie.
