Emily Young Helps Softball Team to Split

Young Drives in Six in 16-4 Win in Game Two After BU Drops Opener

SALEM,VA-The Bloomsburg University split a pair of games on Sunday falling to Fairmont State, 5-3, and beating the University of Charleston, 16-4, in five innings with Emily Young (Nescopeck, Central Columbia) driving in six runs.

In game one of the day, the Huskies opened a 3-1 lead going to the bottom of the seventh inning. Young and Mandy Leach (Milford, Delaware Valley) each had RBI hits for Bloomsburg. Young finished the game 3-3 with two doubles and two runs scored, while Leach was 1-3 with an RBI double.

In the bottom of the seventh inning Fairmont State put together a rally capped by a two-out grand slam to post the 5-3 win. Shavaun Fisher (Coplay, Allentown Central Catholic) took the loss striking out eight and walking two.

In game two Young went 3-4 and drove in six runs to lead the Huskies to a 16-4 victory. Young hit a two-run homer in the first inning and added a two-run shot in the fifth. Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore, Jersey Shore) was 2-3 with three RBI and three runs scored, while Nikki Shiko (Shamokin, Southern Columbia) went 2-3 with two runs scored.

Cait Paine (Lebanon, Lebanon), who carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning, allowed four hits and four runs to earn the win.

Bloomsburg, 17-3, will begin Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central Division play on Tuesday hosting Lock Haven at 2:30 p.m.
