ORLANDO, FL-Nikki Shiko (Shamokin, Southern Columbia) went 3-4 and drove in two runs to lead the Bloomsburg University softball team to an 8- win and a split of its doubleheader with Merrimack College on Monday at the National Training Center in Orlando, FL.

In game two the Huskies trailed 2-0 after giving up two first inning runs. After Bloomsburg cut the deficit in half with a run in the bottom of the third, Shiko helped the Huskies take the lead with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. After Mandy Leach (Milford, Delaware Valley) tied the game with a sacrifice fly RBI, Shiko hit a two-run double to give the Huskies a 4-2 lead. Jenna Hampton (Catawissa, Southern Columbia) followed one batter later with an RBI single making it 5-2. Bloomsburg put the game away with three runs in the sixth.

Cait Paine (Lebanon, Lebanon) went the distance for the Huskies striking out five, not allowing a walk, and surrendering five hits.

In the opener the Huskies scored four times in the third inning, but that was all in a 5-4 loss to Merrimack. Bloomsburg got two runs on a two-run double by Shiko, and added a two-run single from Hampton. After Merrimack took the lead with a run in the bottom of the fourth, the Huskies had a chance to tie or go ahead, but after loading the bases, lined into a double play ending the threat.

Shavaun Fisher (Coplay, Allentown Central Catholic) suffered her first loss of the season in the game.

Bloomsburg, 9-1, will play Winona State at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday and West Liberty at 11:30 a.m.
