ORLANDO, FL-Mandy Leach's (Milford, Delaware Valley) bases loaded triple in the bottom of the sixth inning lifted the 16th-ranked Bloomsburg University softball team to a 9-6 win over West Liberty and a split of its two games on Tuesday at the National Training Center in Orlando, FL.
With the Huskies trailing 6-5 going to the bottom of the sixth, Mandy Koch (Dauphin, Central Dauphin) drove home Danielle Lazorka (Williamsport, Jersey Shore) with the tying run. The Huskies then loaded the bases bring to the plate Leach who tripled driving in three runs.
The Huskies had gone up 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth with Lori Neyhard (Bloomsburg, Central Columbia) getting the big hit of the inning, a two-out single that drove in two runs.
Cait Paine (Lebanon, Lebanon) started for the Huskies and went the first six innings to get the win, while Shavaun Fisher (Coplay, Allentown Central Catholic) struck out the side in the seventh for the save. Jenna Hampton (Catawissa, Southern Columbia) went 2-2 in the game with a walk and getting hit by a pitch. She also scored twice for the Huskies.
In the opener, Winona State pitcher Stacey Struzynski threw a no-hitter at the Huskies in a 3-0 win for the sixth-ranked Warriors. The junior struck out 10 and walked three. Hampton had the Huskies best chance for a hit in the seventh when her liner was grabbed by the leaping shortstop for an out.
Bloomsburg, 10-2, is idle till Thursday when it faces St. Joseph's of Indiana and Post University.
