BLOOMSBURG – The Bloomsburg University softball team ran its winning streak to 19 games with a sweep of Clarion on Saturday by scores of 8-1 and 12-5. The wins gave Huskies head coach Jan Hutchinson 1,200 softball wins in her illustrious career.

In the opener, the Huskies got all they needed in the first three innings, scoring eight runs, including four in the first. Danielle Lazorka (Williamsport, Jersey Shore), Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore, Jersey Shore) and Shen Debaro (Milton, Milton) each knocked in runners in the opening inning while Sam Pientack (Archbald, Valley View) hit a two-run shot in the second, her fifth in four games.

Shavaun Fisher (Coplay, Allentown Central Catholic) went the entire seven innings in the circle for the Huskies, striking out five and giving up just five hits.

Game two saw more early scoring from the Huskies, as Bloomsburg picked up two runs in each of the first three innings. Clarion cut the Huskies lead to 6-4 in its half of the fourth before Bloomsburg responded with four in the fifth to take a six-run lead. The Golden Eagles tried to rally with one more run in the sixth, but the Huskies tacked on two of their own in the bottom half and closed out the seventh for the seven-run win.

Fisher, pitching in relief, picked up her second victory of the day, striking out three in 3.2 innings of work. Nikki Shiko (Shamokin, Southern Columbia) went 4-for-5 with four RBI and a run scored and Jenna Hampton (Catawissa, Southern Columbia) and Sinea Gallagher (Clarks Summit, Abington Heights) each picked up two doubles.

The Huskies (35-3, 12-0) return to the field on Tuesday when they host Mansfield. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
