SCHEDULE
Day One (Friday, May 14)

Game One: Bloomsburg 5, Chowan 2
Box Score

Lacy Mauro's (Jersey Shore, Jersey Shore)'s RBI triple in the fifth inning broke a 2-2 tie as Bloomsburg University would go on to defeat Chowan University 5-2 in the opening game of the 2010 NCAA Division II Softball Championships Atlantic Regional, hosted by Bloomsburg.

The Huskies (45-5) took the early lead as Emily Young's (Nescopeck, Central Columbia)'s single brought in Nikki Shiko (Shamokin, Southern Columbia), who started the inning with a walk. After two more scoreless innings from the Hawks, Bloomsburg got another RBI from Young as a sacrifice fly to left field scored Shiko.

Shavaun Fisher (Coplay, Allentown Central Catholic), the Huskies starter, again put down Chowan 1-2-3 in the fourth as she carried a one-hitter into the fifth. In the top of the fifth, however, the Hawks fought back, capitalizing on a pair of Bloomsburg errors. After a single by Meli Woodrum loaded the bases, Megan Wade followed with a single to center, bringing home two runners and tying the score at two-apiece.

The score didn't stay tied for long, as Mauro's go-ahead hit came after a lead-off single from Danielle Lazorka (Williamsport, Jersey Shore). Young then reached on an error, scoring Mauro, and Mandy Koch (Dauphin, Central Dauphin) followed with a double, putting runners on second and third. Jenna Hampton (Catawissa, Southern Columbia) then knocked a single to right, the fourth hit of the inning, scoring Young and putting the Huskies ahead 5-2.

Fisher then closed out the Hawks, allowing just two hits over the final two innings and fanning the final two batters to gain the three-run victory.

Shiko, Lazorka and Koch each had two hits while Young had two RBI. Fisher stretched her record to 30-4 with a complete game, six-strikeout performance.

The Huskies will now play the winner of the West Virginia Wesleyan-IUP match up on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m.

Game Two: West Virginia Wesleyan 1, IUP 3
Box Score

Pitcher Erin Holloway allowed just three hits to lead Indiana, PA (IUP) past West Virginia Wesleyan (WVW), 3-1, in the second game of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region 1 tournament at Bloomsburg University in a game delayed for nearly two and a half hours by rain.

IUP took a 1-0 lead in the game in the top of the first inning. With one out Dee Eppinger walked, stole second and scored on a single by Kelsey Ferguson. IUP also threatened in the second, third and four innings, getting two runners on base in each inning, but Bobcat pitcher Patricia Moreno was able to work out of the jams and keep the game 1-0.

In the bottom of the fourth West Virginia Wesleyan had runners at second and third with one out when the rains came and delayed the game for nearly two and a half hours. When play resumed the Bobcats tried a squeeze play, but the runner was out at home putting runners at first and third with two outs. KC Carey then worked a walk for WVW and on ball four the pitch was wild allowing Kashilla Young to score from third. Holloway, though, got the final out via strikeout and the game stayed tied at 1-1.

IUP went ahead for good in the top of the sixth inning. Stefanie Poates singled to lead off with Jen Beaver coming in to pinch run. After a bunt moved Beaver to second, Michelle Bivona doubled to left scoring Beaver to make it 2-1. After a strikeout, Marissa Leslie singled home Bivona for a 3-1 lead for the Crimson Hawks.

Holloway allowed just one base runner in the sixth and put down the Bobcats in order in the home seventh to earn the win.

IUP, 36-10, will face Bloomsburg, a 5-2 winner over Chowan, on Saturday at 11 a.m. West Virginia Wesleyan, 43-12, will face Chowan in an elimination game on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

The Huskies (46-5) struck first, getting a solo shot from Pientack in the second. IUP tied the score in the top half of the third when a single to center by Kelsey Ferguson brought home Dee Eppinger.

Bloomsburg then went on a tear in the third, batting around and getting six runs on six hits to take a commanding 7-1 lead. Nikki Shiko (Shamokin, Southern Columbia)started the inning with a single and would later advance to second on a passed ball and score on a single by Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore, Jersey Shore). Box Score

Kashila Young went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI as West Virginia Wesleyan defeated Chowan University in the first elimination game of the 2010 NCAA Division II Softball Championships Atlantic Regional.

Wesleyan started strong and stayed consistent, scoring in each of the game's first four innings. The Bobcats (44-12) got one run in the first and second before Young's dinger in the third put them on top 4-0. Chowan got one back in the bottom half with Fahren Munro's RBI single up the middle, scoring Kaytee McLaughlin.

The Bobcats responded strong in the fourth, getting three runs on four hits to take a 7-1 lead. After a double by Stephanie St. Peter, KC Carey and Paige Cummings followed with singles to load the bases. Wesleyan added one more in the fifth on an RBI single by St. Peter, giving the Bobcats a seven-run advantage heading in the final two-and-a-half innings. After going scoreless in the fifth and sixth, Chowan tried to start a two-out rally in the seventh, getting a single from Shelby Pendleton, who would score from first when Allie Kolezynski followed with another single.
