LOCK HAVEN—The Bloomsburg University softball team ran its winning streak to17 games with a sweep of Lock Haven on Friday by scores of 3-0 and 6-2. The wins were victories numbers 1,197 and 1,198 in the softball coaching of Bloomsburg head coach Jan Hutchinson

In the game one pitcher Shavaun Fisher (Coplay, Allentown Central Catholic) tossed a two-hit shutout to lead the Huskies to the win. Fisher allowed singles in the second and sixth innings and walked just one and did not allow any Lock Haven runner to reach second base.

Offensively the Huskies got all the runs Fisher would need in the first inning. Nikki Shiko (Shamokin, Southern Columbia) singled to lead off the game and then two batters later scored on a two-run homer by Sam Pientack (Archbald, Valley View). The Huskies got an insurance run in the fifth when Casey Massimini (Downingtown, Downingtown West) reached on a fielder's choice, stole second and scored on a single by Shiko.

In game two the Huskies fell behind 2-0 after one inning when the Lady Eagles got a two-run homer from Becca Bailey off of Fisher. The Huskies got one back in the fifth when Shen Debaro (Milton, Milton)singled and scored on a triple by Shiko. The Huskies went on top in the top of the seventh scoring five times. Shiko doubled home two runs to put the Huskies on top 3-2, then scored on a single by Danielle Lazorka (Williamsport, Jersey Shore) for a 4-2 lead. Bloomsburg capped the rally with a two-run homer from Pientack for a 6-2 lead.

Fisher retired the Lady Eagles in order in the bottom of the seventh to earn the win.

The wins give Hutchinson and her team a mark of 33-3 for the season, 10-0 in the PSAC Central. Hutchinson, who is retiring at the end of the season after 33 years of coaching, is already the all-time leader in career wins for Division II coaches and will go for wins number 1,199 and 1,200 against Clarion on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
