BLOOMSBURG—Bloomsburg University will be the site of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Super Regional on Friday and Saturday, May 21-22.
The Huskies will host California (PA) in a best two out of three series with the winner with the winner advancing to the NCAA Division II College World Series in St. Joseph, Missouri, May 27-31, at Heritage Park.
Game one of the series will be played Friday at 1 p.m. at
Jan Hutchinson Field with the teams meeting again on Saturday at 11 a.m. and, if necessary, at 1:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $5 for adults, $3 for students and seniors, $2 for children 2-12 and under two free. No passes will be accepted.
The Huskies, ranked sixth in NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) Division II poll, are 47-6 on the season after winning the Atlantic Region 1 tournament last weekend. California, 37-12, won the Atlantic Region 2 bracket last weekend to advance to this weekend's action.
Bloomsburg is led offensively by
Nikki Shiko (Shamokin/Southern Columbia). The senior third baseman is batting .410 on the season with four homers and 41 RBI. In the post-season (PSAC and NCAA) Shiko has stepped her game up to another level is batting .525 with a homer and six RBI. Second baseman
Danielle Lazorka (Williamsport/Jersey Shore) is second in batting .393 with 30 RBI with catcher
Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) third at .385 with a homer and a team-high 42 RBI. Mauro helped propel the Huskies to the Super Regional by going 3-4 and driving in two runs in the Huskies tournament clinching 6-0 win over IUP on Sunday.
Fourth on the team in batting is senior
Casey Massimini (Downingtown/Downingtown West). The Huskies left fielder is batting .347 on the season, but has also taken her game up a level in the playoffs and is batting .419 in the post-season.
In the circle for the Huskies is
Shavaun Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) who is 32-5 on the season with a 1.05 ERA. Fisher has fanned 276, the second best single-season mark in school history, in 247 innings of work. She scattered eight hits and struckout five in blanking IUP in the tournament clinching game.
Cal is led by Amanda Wallace batting .406 on the season with six homers and 36 RBI, while Danielle Easton is second at .391 with nine homers and 47 RBI and Julie Mackenzie third at .352 with four homers and 26 RBI.
In the circle, Lauren Shaheen is 19-4 with a 1.32 ERA, while Maria Greco is 16-7 with a 1.42 ERA. Shaheen has 141 strikeouts in 146 innings of pitching, while Greco has 172 strikeouts in 138 innings of work.
The Huskies beat California twice during the PSAC championships, including a come-from-behind 7-5 win over the Vulcans in the PSAC championship game.
