Women's Cross Country Team Takes Second

Meet Results

MANSFIELD— Bloomsburg University's Katherine Filemyr (Willow Grove, Bishop McDevitt)and Katie Meck (Dillsburg, Northern) finished second and third respectively to lead the Huskies to a second place finish at the Flatland Invitational at Mansfield University on Saturday.

Filmeyr was second on the 5,135 meter course in 19:33, while Meck was just 11 seconds behind her in 19:44. Bloomsburg also got ninth and 10th place with ninth going to Kaitlyn McShay (Springfield, Cardinal O'Hara) in 20:34, while Kaitlyn McShay (Springfield, Cardinal O'Hara) was 10th in 20:39.

Finishing 13th overall was Courtney Werner (Hudson, Hudson)in 20:52, while Martina Drew (Langhorne, Neshaminy) was 16th in 20:57 and Bridget McDermott (Glenholden, Cardinal O'Hara)17th in 21:17.

As a team the Huskies finished second with 37 points just getting edged out by Mansfield with 36 points.

Bloomsburg head coach Bernie Empie was pleased with his team's effort.

“I am happy with the progress we have made over the past two weeks,” said Empie. “ Both teams have been working very hard and focusing on the the big meets at the end of the season. I think most of our team was running on tired legs today. Taking that into consideration, we are performing at the level I would expect.”

Bloomsburg hosts the Huskie Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 9th.
