LAKEWOOD, NJ – Two second-half unassisted goals by the Bloomsburg University women's soccer team were all the Huskies needed, defeating Georgian Court University 2-0 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon for the season opener for both teams.
After a scoreless first half, senior forward
Kelsey Stoka (Langhorne, Neshaminy) gave Bloomsburg a 1-0 lead at the 47:39 mark, giving the team its first goal of the year.
Junior midfielder
Katie Walczuk (Long Valley, NJ, West Morris Central) iced the game for the Huskies offense, finding the back of the net for BU's second goal on the day at the 73:30 mark.
Teammates
Natalie Adams (Wilkes-Barre, Holy Redeemer) and
Kristine Preski (Philadelphia, Owen J. Roberts) both tallied five shots on goal for Bloomsburg.
Huskies goaltender
Frances Nicoletti (Haddonfield, NJ, Haddonfield) earned her first victory of the year by making four saves.
The Huskies held a 27-5 shots on goal advantage on the afternoon.
For the Lions, Kelly Lyons and Becky Witmer each recorded two shots on goal in the loss.
The Huskies (1-0) will be back in action on Wednesday hosting Chestnut Hill College at 6:30 p.m. at Sports Stadium.
