Field Hockey Earns 5-1 Win Over IUP

BLOOMSBURG - Lindsay Danz (Rehoboth Beach, DE/Sussex Technical) scored two goals to lead the top-ranked Bloosmburg University field hockey team to a 5-1 win over Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon at Sports Stadium.

In the early going both teams had scoring chances with the Huskies getting two penalty corners and the Crimson Hawks three in the game's first 27 minutes. Bloomsburg finally broke through in the 28th minute when Amber Aulenbach (Fleetwood/Oley Valley) scored off a redirect from Jaclyn Beasley (Berlin, NJ/Eastern), putting the Huskies up 1-0.

The Crimson Hawks tied up the score just three minutes later when Jillian Duld scored off an assist from Shannon Sullivan. This was the first goal the Huskies have allowed after carrying a five game shutout streak.

The Huskies added to their lead with less than five minutes left in the first half when Brittany Mathews (Reedsville/Indian Valley) hit the back of the cage, putting them up 2-1 to end the half.

In the second half Cassie DiSabatino (Mountain Top/Crestwood) would push in another goal for the Huskies, 3-1, after receiving an assist from Amanda Riley (Tannersville/Pocono Mountain East) at the 44:46 mark.

Lindsay Danz (Rehoboth Beach, DE/Sussex Technical) added to the Huskies lead after scoring off a cross from Alexis Weber (Bear, DE/William Penn) in the 53rd minute of the game, giving the Huskies a 4-1 advantage over the Crimson Hawks.

Bloomsburg closed out the showdown with IUP with Danz scoring for her second goal of the game off an assist from Aulenbach.

Bloomsburg finished with 20 shots compared to 6 for IUP, while the Huskies also had a 10-8 edge in penalty corners.

The Huskies goalie Meghan Hollenbach (Blandon/Fleetwood) had three saves, while Brittany Varacallo from the Crimson Hawks had seven.

Bloomsburg stays unbeaten at 10-0, 3-0 in the PSAC East, while IUP drops to 7-4, 3-1 in the PSAC West. The Huskies will travel to CW Post on Wednesday, October 5 for a game start of 4 pm.
