Walczuk Scores Two Goals in 3-1 Win Over Charleston

BLOOMSBURG—Senior midfielder Katie Walczuk (Long Valley, NJ, West Morris Central) scored two goals to lead Bloomsburg University (8-5-1) past the Golden Eagles of Charleston (4-7-1), 3-1. The Huskies outshot Charleston 7-6, putting four shots on frame.
 
In the 16th minute Jamie Vaniver (Holland, Council Rock South) dumped a pass off to Katie Walczuk (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) just outside the 18.  From there Walczuk fired a shot into the upper right corner for the game's opening goal. 
 
Charleston answered with a goal of their own in the 26th minute as Elyse Surbaugh buried a one-touch shot into the right corner on a cross from Brittany Loveland.
 
Eight minutes later the Huskies made it 2-1 as Walczuk scored her second o the game.  Jessy Shober (Marietta, Donegal) setup the goal on a deep through-ball pass, leaving Walczuk with a one-on-one opportunity with the goalie.  From there Walczuk beat the goalie for the score. 
 
At the 41:51 mark in the first half Jessy Shober (Marietta, Donegal) dribbled her way through several Golden Eagle defenders before being taken down inside the box.  Awarded a penalty shot, Fexa buried the PK into the lower left corner for a 3-1 Husky lead.
 
Neither team would score in the second half as the Huskies tallied their eighth win of the season.  Bloomsburg goalies Frances Nicoletti (Haddonfield, NJ, Haddonfield) and Danielle Fiorelli (Warrington, Villa Joseph Marie) combined for three saves while Charleston keeper Catherine Perry made one save in 90 minutes of play.
 
Bloomsburg will be back in action on Tuesday, October 18th as they host the Vulcans of California (Pa.) in PSAC action.  Game-time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Sports Stadium in Bloomsburg, PA.
