Field Hockey Beats Kutztown

KUTZTOWN--Nicole Bruce (Dalton/Lackawanna Trail) scored two goals and Amanda Riley (Tannersville/Pocono Mountain East) assisted on two goals to lead the No.1 ranked Bloomsburg University field hockey team to a 2-1 win over Kutztown on Wednesday night.

Bloomsburg had two early scoring chances on the strenght of two penalty corners, but came up empty each time. The Huskies finally got on the board  when Bruce scored off a Riley assist in the 18th minute of play. The Golden Bears tied the score six minutes later when Kim Angstadt picked a loose ball in front of the goal and scored the tying goal.

The scored stayed 1-1 through the rest of the first half although the Huskies Cassie DiSabatino (Mountain Top/Crestwood) did have a shot late in the period that was blocked by the Kutztown goalie.

In the second half Kutztown had a shot on goal that was saved by BU goalie Meghan Hollenbach (Blandon/Fleetwood). The Huskies quickly turned the ball in the other direction and drove down field where Bruce took a pass from Riley and scored the go-ahead goa in the 51st minutel.

From there the Huskies defense limited the Goldean Bears to just one shot on goal, one that was blocked by Hollenbach.

With the win the Huskies improved to 16-0, 9-0 in the PSAC East, while Kutztown fell to 10-7, 4-5 in the PSAC East. Bloomsburg will host C.W. Post in the regular season finale on Friday at 2 p.m.
