Women's Soccer Downs Mercyhurst 3-1

ERIE - Katie Walczuk (Long Valley, NJ, West Morris Central) scored the goal-ahead goal as the women's soccer team defeated Mercyhurst by a score of 3-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action Saturday afternoon.

The Huskies broke a scoreless tie in 37 minutes into the game when Jamie Vaniver (Holland, Council Rock South) deposited a loose ball in the back of the net. Natalie Adams (Wilkes-Barre, Holy Redeemer) was credited with the assist. The Lakers would respond less than two minutes later, when Malre Dunning scored at the 39:50 mark to knot the game at 1-1.

The game would not stayed tied for long, however, as Tara Huber (Orefield/Parkland) got a ball past the Mercyhurst goalkeeper late in the half to give Bloomsburg a lead they would not relinquish.

The Huskies would add an insurance goal midway through the second half when Katie Walczuk (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) scored on a header off an assist from Huber. The Bloomsburg defenders were dominant throughout the game, limiting the lakers to just three shots on goal on the afternoon. Frances Nicoletti (Haddonfield, NJ, Haddonfield) played all 90 minutes in goal for Bloomsburg and had two saves.

The Huskies continue their road trip this Tuesday when they travel to Mansfield to take on the Mountaineers at 4:00 p.m.
