BLOOMSBURG--
Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) scored a game-high 28 points, including the 1,000
th of her career, leading the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to an 85-63 victory over Lincoln University Monday night at the Nelson Field House.
Lincoln jumped out to an early 5-1 lead before the Huskies went on a 13-0 run in which Wieller scored nine points. After going ahead on a three-pointer by Wieller with 15:23 in the first half, Bloomsburg did not relinquish the lead for the rest of the game.
Catherine Noack (Bethlehem/Liberty) hit back-to-back three pointers and
Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) followed with a three pointer of her own with 6:31 to go in the half to start a 13-2 run for the Huskies, putting the home team up 27-12.
Lincoln University was able to cut the lead to single digits, outscoring Bloomsburg 8-1 over the next three minutes while forcing three turnovers to make it a 28-20 with 2:11 to go in the half. The Huskies closed out that half on an 8-3 run to lead 36-23 at the break.
In the second half, Wieller reached the milestone, hitting a three-pointer with 18:03 to go in the game, making her the 19
th player in Bloomsburg history to reach 1,000 career points. Bloomsburg would push the lead to 19 on a free throw by
Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor) with 14 minutes to go in the game.
Later, the Huskies went up 77-55, their biggest lead of the game, on a layup by
Colleen Nosovitch (Allentown/Allentown Central Catholic) with 5:20 to play. Lincoln did not get any closer than 16 points the rest of the way as the Huskies closed the game on a 6-0 run to win by 22.
Wieller finished the game 10-of-17 from the floor, including 7-of-11 from three point range and tied her season high with 28 points. Gallagher added a season-high 23 points in the victory. Lincoln, 3-2, was led by Denyse Moore with 16 points while Tahlar McIntosh and Sharay, DuBose scored 11 each.
Bloomsburg, 5-1 on the year, will play at IUP on Saturday at 1 p.m.
