Women's Basketball Team Handles Kutztown

BLOOMSBURG- Dana Wieller (Bethlehem, Liberty) scored a game-high 24 points to the lead the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to an 85-70 win over Kutztown University on Saturday afternoon in a PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) Eastern Division game. The victory keeps the Huskies on top in the PSAC East with a 9-1 record, as Bill Cleary recorded his 100th win as an NCAA head coach.

The teams played evenly through the first six minutes of play with two lead changes and three ties. The Huskies kicked into gear with a 26-9 run over the next 10 minutes to take charge.

With 1:07 left in the half Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland, Hazleton Area) had an inside basket for the Huskies and then went to the locker room leading 45-32.

Kutztown would rally in the first eight minutes of the second half cutting the Huskies lead to six points. Bloomsburg would later extend the lead back to 14 points when Hannah Geedey (Lewistown, Lewistown) and Wieller had back- to-back three-pointers with just 10 minutes to play.

Kutztown came back again to cut the lead to eight points, 72-64, on two free throws with under six minutes to play. Catherine Noack (Bethlehem, Liberty) and Geedey put the Huskies back on top, 78-64, after knocking down another back-to-back three pointers.

With 1:41 to play Lauren Ellis (Bangor, Bangor) knocked down two from the foul line to give the Huskies a 15-point win.

Along with Wieller scoring 24 points,Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg South) added 17 points and a team-high six rebounds for Bloomsburg, now 17-5, and winning their seven straight. Ashley Wood scored 24 points for Kutztown which falls to 12-10, 5-5 in the PSAC East.

Bloomsburg will host Mansfield on Wednesday at 5:30 pm.
