Gallagher Leads Bloomsburg Past Mansfield

BLOOMSBURG—Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to its eighth straight win, an 85-61 victory over Mansfield, on Wednesday night at the Nelson Field House.

The visitors held the early lead in the game jumping out to an 8-2 advantage four minutes into the game. The Huskies though came back with the help of two three-pointers from Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland/Tri-Valley) to go up 13-10 with 13:33 left in the half. After Mansfield tied the game at 16-16, Bloomsburg took the lead for good on Oxenrider's third three-pointer of the half. The basket was the start of a 19-6 run for the Huskies over the next four minutes as Bloomsburg built a 33-22 lead with 7:40 to go in the first half.

Mansfield cut into lead with a 7-0 run to get within 33-29 with 5:48 left before the Huskies closed out the half with a 15-2 run. Gallagher scored five points, while Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor) and Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) each scored four points with Wieller draining a long three at the buzzer giving Bloomsburg a 48-31 lead.

After Mansfield cut the lead to 50-37 with 17:52 to play in the game, the Huskies put the game out of reach going on 12-2 run to open a 62-39 advantage. Oxenrider led the Huskies charge scoring five points. The lead for Bloomsburg eventually got as high as 27 and never got below 17 points the final eight and a half minutes of action.

Along with Gallagher getting 25 points the junior also had three rebounds, two assists and three steals. Oxenrider added 23 points with Wieller scoring 11. Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland/Hazleton Area) dished out seven assists and also had three steals. Mallory Moore scored a team-high 24 points for Mansfield (6-17, 1-10 PSAC East), including the 1000th point of her career.

Bloomsburg goes to 18-5 with the win and stays atop the PSAC East with a 10-1 record. The Huskies, ranked eighth in the NCAA Atlantic Region poll, will host Cheyney on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Nelson Field House.
