CLERMONT,FL—The Bloomsburg University softball ended its spring break trip to Florida with a pair of wins on Saturday. The Huskies beat Molloy College,11-3 in six innings, then downed Franklin Pierce, 8-7.
In the game with Molloy, a rematch of a game from the 2010 NCAA softball championships in Missouri, the Huskies trailed 3-2 going to the sixth. In the sixth inning Bloomsburg exploded for nine runs with the help of the long ball. Senior
Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) hit a grand slam in the inning, while
Mandi Baer (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) added a two-run shot for the Huskies.
Getting the win with one inning of relief work was
Shavaun Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) who relieved
Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon). In five innings Paine allowed eight hits, did not walk anyone and struckout eight.
Mauro finished 2-4, while Baer and
Mandy Leach (Milford/Delaware Valley) both went 3-4 in the game.
In game two the Huskies rallied from a 7-5 deficit to pull out the win. Bloomsburg scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning with the help of three errors and a wild pitch.
Rachel Fredell (Dingmans Ferry/Delaware Valley) went 2-4 with two RBI, while
Sam Pientack (Archbald/Valley View) was 2-4 with an RBI and a double. Fisher picked up the win with 5 2/3 innings of relief work. She fanned 11 and walked just one while allowing just four hits and two runs.
Bloomsburg,10-3, plays at East Stroudsburg on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
