SALEM,VA--Pitcher
Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon) threw a one-hit shutout and
Mandi Baer (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) hit a three-run homer to lead the Bloomsburg University softball team to a 9-0, five inning win, over West Virginia State on day one of the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament being played in Salem, VA.
Paine allowed just one hit, a two-out single in the third inning, while striking out 12 and not allowing any walks in getting her seventh win of the season against one loss.
Offensively, Baer hit a three-run homer in a seven-run third inning to lead the Huskies. Bloomsburg jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by
Emily Young (Nescopeck/Central Columbia).
The Huskies made it 8-0 with seven runs in the third paced by Baer's long ball. In addition
Mandy Leach (Milford/Delaware Valley) also had an RBI double in the inning.
Overall Baer was 1-2 with Leach going 2-3. In addition,
Danielle Lazorka (Williamsport/Jersey Shore) was 2-3 with a run scored,while
Sam Pientack (Archbald/Valley View) was 2-3 with two runs scored.
Bloomsburg, 11-3, will face West Virginia Wesleyan and Charleston (WV) on Saturday.
