SALEM,VA—The Bloomsburg University softball team swept a pair of games on Saturday at the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament in Salem, VA. The Huskies beat West Virginia Wesleyan,3-0, and the University of Charleston, 8-1.
In game one, Shivaun Fisher tossed a four-hit shutout and
Lori Neyhard (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) went 3-3 with a double and two RBI to lead the Huskies. Fisher struckout six and did not walk a batter in going the distance.
Neyhard drove in two of the team's three runs with
Mandi Baer (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) picking up the other RBI. Baer was 2-4 in the game, while
Danielle Lazorka (Williamsport/Jersey Shore) was 2-3 with a double.
In game two the Huskies rolled to an 8-1 win over Charleston. Scoreless into the fourth inning, the Huskies broke through with four runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Rachel Fredell (Dingmans Ferry/Delaware Valley), Neyhard and Lazorka all had RBI hits in the inning.
After Charleston got one run back in the bottom of the fourth, the Huskies put the game away with four more runs in the top of the sixth.
Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon) pitched the Huskies to the win allowing three hits, striking out eight and walking two. Lazorka finished 3-4 with two RBI, while
Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) was 2-3 with a double and an RBI.
Fredell went 1-3 with an RBI, while
Sam Pientack (Archbald/Valley View) was 1-4 with an RBI.
Bloomsburg, now 13-3, plays Shepherd and Fairmont State on Sunday.
