SALEM,VA—The Bloomsburg University softball team picked up two wins on Sunday at the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament beating Shepherd 1-0 and Fairmont State 4-1.
In the game with Shepherd,
Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) hit a home run leading off the game and Shivaun Fisher threw a two-hit shutout to lead the Huskies to the win. Fisher also fanned 12 and did not walk a batter in picking up the victory.
Mauro's lead-off home run was the second of the season for the senior.
Bloomsburg did have one other scoring chance in the game getting two runners on with one out in the fifth, but could not score.
In game two, the Huskies scored twice in the bottom of the first inning with
Mandi Baer (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) and
Emily Young (Nescopeck/Central Columbia) getting RBI hits. Baer had a double scoring Mauro who had singled, while Young's single scored Baer.
In the third inning the Huskies made it 4-0 with a pair of runs.
Rachel Fredell (Dingmans Ferry/Delaware Valley) and Young both had run scoring singles in the inning. Fairmont got its only run of the game in the top of the seventh inning.
Pitcher
Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon) went the distance in the circle striking out 12 and walking two while allowing eight hits.
Mauro finished 2-4 with a double and a run scored, while Baer was 2-3 with a double and an RBI. Young finished 2-3 with a double.
Bloomsburg, 15-3, will play at Lock Haven on Friday at 2:30 p.m. before opening its home season on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Gannon.
