LOCK HAVEN—The Bloomsburg University softball team swept a pair of games from Lock Haven on Tuesday in PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) Central Division action winning 4-0 and 4-3 behind the pitching of
Shavaun Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) and the hitting of
Mandy Leach (Milford/Delaware Valley).
In game one Fisher threw a two-hit shutout to lead Bloomsburg to the win. Fisher allowed just two first inning singles, then, retired the final 18 batters she faced in earning the win. The senior did not walk a batter and fanned eight along the way.
Offensively, the Huskies got the only run it would need in the second inning when Leach led off the inning with a solo homer. Bloomsburg added a pair of runs in the fifth to make it 3-0.
Sam Pientack (Archbald/Valley View) got a one-out double, then scored on a single by
Emily Young (Nescopeck/Central Columbia), with Young moving to second on the throw home. After a ground out,
Lori Neyhard (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) singled home Young, putting the Huskies on top 3-0.
Bloomsburg's final run came in the seventh on an RBI single by
Mandy Leach (Milford/Delaware Valley), who finished the game 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
In game two the Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning.
Rachel Fredell (Dingmans Ferry/Delaware Valley) doubled and later scored on a single by
Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore). Lock Haven came back and scored three times in the bottom of the third to lead 3-1.
Bloomsburg tied the score in the fifth with the help of two errors by Lock Haven.
Raychelle Kuhns (Williamsport/Loyalsock) drove in one run with a single, while the tying run scored with the help of an error.
The Huskies scored the go-ahead run in the sixth. Pientack doubled leading off and went to third on sacrifice bunt. The junior then scored on a wild pitch to put Bloomsburg on top 4-3.
From there Fisher, who relieved starter
Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon) in the fourth, retired the final six batters she faced and getting five of them on strikeouts. In four innings Fisher allowed just one hit and struckout seven.
Leach led the offense going 2-3 with a run scored.
Bloomsburg, 17-3,2-0 in the PSAC Central, will host Clarion on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
