Bloomsburg Softball Splits Pair on Sunday

Lacy Mauro hit a three-run homer in game one on Sunday
CLERMONT, FL—The Bloomsburg University softball team split two games on Sunday on day two of the team's annual spring break trip. The Huskies beat Felician College 13-0 in five innings, before losing to the University of Tampa, 2-0.

In game one Bloomsburg used the long ball slamming four home runs to back the combined three-hitter from Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon) and Mandi Black (Huntington Mills/Northwest Area).

The Huskies scored in every inning, getting five runs in both the second and third innings. In the second, Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) hit one of the four home runs, a three-run shot. Sam Pientack (Archbald/Valley View) went 3-4 with a three RBI and two runs scored, while Jenna Hampton (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) went 2-4 with a double, and a run scored.

Paine also chipped in offensively going 2-4 with a homer and two runs scored, while Lynsday Busler was 1-1 with a solo homer. Mauro finished 1-4 with two runs scored and three RBI.

Paine allowed two hits in three innings of work to earn her second win of the season.

In game two, the Huskies lost to Tampa, 2-0. Bloomsburg put two runners on base in the top of the first inning after Mauro reached on an error and Pientack singled to center with two outs. Tampa though got the next out ending the threat. The hit would be the Huskies only one for the game.

Tampa scored a run in the bottom of the fourth with the help of a Huskies error. Bloomsburg did get a lead off in the fifth, but could not advance the runner. In the Tampa sixth the Spartans got a solo homer to make it 2-0. The Huskies did get a two-out walk in the top of the seventh, but the next batter popped up to end the game.

Shavaun Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) took the loss for the second time this season despite allowing just five hits.

Bloomsburg, 2-2, will face St. Joseph's of Indiana and Grand Valley on Monday in Florida.
