Women's Tennis Team Splits Matches on Sunday

BLOOMSBURG-The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team split a pair of matches on Sunday at the BU Duals. The Huskies dropped the opener to the University of Charleston (WV),5-3, then beat Holy Family University,5-1.

Against Charleston the Huskies had to dig themselves out of a hole after dropping all three doubles matches.

In singles play the Huskies began to battle back when Danielle Walsh (Fairfield, CT/St. John The Baptist) posted a 6-2,6-0 win at number four. After Charleston won at number three to make it 4-1, Laura Sullivan (Dingman's Ferry/Delaware Valley) won 6-4,6-4 at number two singles to make it 4-2.

Bloomsburg's Kristi Twardziak (Somerdale, NJ/Triton Regional ) then scored a three-set win at number five to narrow the gap to 4-3. Charleston though closed out the match with a win at number one to secure the 5-3 victory.

In the match with Holy Family the Huskies won in doubles at number two with Walsh and Sullivan winning 8-0, and at nunber three with Natalie Greenholt (Hanover/South Western) and Sarah Fisher (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) 8-3.

In singles action Walsh won 6-0,6-0 at number four, while Fisher won 6-2,6-3 at number three. Kristen Wong (Allentown/Allentown Central Catholic) closed out the win for the Huskies with a 6-3,6-3 win at number six.

Bloomsburg, 13-4, will host Bucknell in the regular season finale on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
