Huskies Fall in PSAC Women's Tennis Semi-Finals

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team lost in the semi-finals of the 2011 PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) championships on Thursday at Bloomsburg to IUP by a score of 5-1. In the other semi-final match California (PA) beat West Chester 9-0 to advance to the title match.

The championship match will be played on Friday at 9 a.m. with the consolation match between Bloomsburg and West Chester set to be played at noon, weather permitting.

IUP took a 2-1 lead after doubles. The Huskies won at number two with the team of Laura Sullivan (Dingman's Ferry/Delaware Valley) and Danielle Walsh (Fairfield, CT/St. John The Baptist) posting an 8-2 win. Bloomsburg lost a tough match at the top of the doubles lineup when Emily Palko (McMurray/Peters Township) and Kristi Twardziak (Somerdale, NJ/Triton Regional ) lost 9-8, 8-4 in the tie breaker.

In singles play, IUP scored wins at number two, three and four singles. Bloomsburg was winning at the other three positions when play was halted.

Bloomsburg, now 14-4, will West Chester, 15-9, in the third place match. Cal (Pa.), 18-7, will face IUP, 19-5, for the title at 9 a.m.
