BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University softball team dropped a pair of 1-0 games to Kutztown on Friday and were eliminated from the 2011 PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) softball championships. Kutztown will now host the PSAC championship round next weekend with the other first round winners, IUP and West Chester.

Needing to win just one game to advance the Huskies struggled against Kutztown starter Monica Glomb who had a perfect going into the fifth inning. In the fifth with two outs Lori Neyhard (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) broke up the perfect game with single, but Mandy Leach (Milford/Delaware Valley) flied out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth the Huskies got singles from Emily Young (Nescopeck/Central Columbia) and pinch hitter Rachel Fredell (Dingmans Ferry/Delaware Valley). After a fly out, Danielle Lazorka (Williamsport/Jersey Shore) grounde out with the runners moving to second and third. Glomb though worked out of the jam getting a ground out to end the threat.

Kutztown scored the game's only run in the first inning when Jennifer Stow singled with one out, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Nicole Henninger.

Shavaun Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) was the Huskies hard-luck loser fanning eight and walking two while allowing just four hits.

In the deciding game the teams were scoreless through the first three innings. Bloomsburg did get a single from Lazorka in the first inning, but she was stranded at second, while left one runner on in the third.

In the top of the fourth Bloomsburg pitcher Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon) retired the first two hitters she faced before Henninger hit a home run down the left field line to put the Golden Bears on top.

The Huskies did a runner to second in the bottom of the sixth, but Glomb got a fly out to end the inning. In the seventh the Huskies went down in order to see their chance to repeat as conference champions come to an end.

Bloomsburg falls to 30-7 with the losses, while Kutztown goes to 39-12. The Huskies will now await word on the NCAA playoffs which start the second week of May.
