BLOOMSBURG--The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team took third at the PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) championships on Friday with a 5-3 win over West Chester.
The Huskies led 2-1 after doubles action with the number one team of
Emily Palko (McMurray/Peters Township) and
Kristi Twardziak (Somerdale, NJ/Triton Regional ) winning 8-5, while
Laura Sullivan (Dingman's Ferry/Delaware Valley) and
Danielle Walsh (Fairfield, CT/St. John The Baptist) posted an 8-2 win at number two.
In singles action the Huskies claimed two big wins at number one and four with the four singles match going three sets. Palko won at number one in straight sets, but need a tie-breaker for the second set, winning 6-3, 7-6 (3).
At four Walsh posted a three-set win 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in what turned out to the deciding match. Twardziak also posted a win for Bloomsburg winning at number five.
Bloomsburg, now 14-5, will await word on a possible bid to the NCAA championships. The bids will be announced in early May.
