BLOOMSBURG—
Lacy Mauro (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) went 3-4 and drove in two runs to lead the Bloomsburg University softball team to a 7-3 win over Lock Haven and a split of their doubleheader. The Lady Eagles won the opener 3-2 in eight innings.
In game two the Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning when
Danielle Lazorka (Williamsport/Jersey Shore) singled and came around to score on a triple by
Sam Pientack (Archbald/Valley View). Bloomsburg added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth by scoring three times.
Jenna Hampton (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) doubled to lead off the inning. Raychelle Kuhn came in to pinch run and scored when
Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon) singled and the ball was misplayed by the Lock Haven right fielder. Mauro then followed with a long home run to left field making it 4-0.
Lock Haven got a run back in the fifth when Brittany Muthard hit a solo home run, but that was answered by the Huskies
Lori Neyhard (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) in the bottom of the inning who also hit a solo shot.
Bloomsburg tacked on two more runs in the home sixth. Mauro and Lazorka singled and
Mandi Baer (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) reached on an error to load the bases. Mauro then scored on a wild pitch, while Lazorka scored on an error by the shortstop.
Lock Haven scored twice in the top of the seventh and had the tying run at the plate, but Huskies pitcher
Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon) got a pop up to end the game.
Mauro, Lazorka and Hampton all went 3-4 in the game, while Paine struckout six and walked one to get the win.
In the opener the Huskies were one strike from earning a win when pinch hitter Erica Pooler hit a solo homer to tie the game at 2-2 and then won it with a run in the top of the eighth.
The Huskies took a 2-0 lead in the game in the third inning. Mauro and Lazorka singled to lead off the inning and after moving up on a sac bunt came around to score on a single by
Mandy Leach (Milford/Delaware Valley).
Lock Haven got one run back in the sixth on an RBI single by Bridgett Clarke before Pooler tied the score with a home run.
Bloomsburg did get two runners on base, but failed to score in the bottom of the seventh. After Lock Haven went ahead in the top of the eighth, the Huskies loaded the bases with two outs, but could not score in the bottom of the eighth.
Shavaun Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) suffered the loss striking out 11 and walking just one.
Bloomsburg, 25-5, 8-2 in the PSAC Central, plays at Clarion on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
