Men's Soccer Falls in PSAC Opener, 2-0

BLOOMSBURG—Bloomsburg University goalie Bernie Roell (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) made six saves but it was not enough as the Marauders of Millersville claimed a 2-0 PSAC win over the Huskies. With the loss Bloomsburg drops to 0-2 on the season while Millersville improves to 2-0.

The Huskies came out firing in the first half as they put two shots on goal before earning a corner kick. Bloomsburg would come up empty handed on their early attempts.

Millersville responded quickly as Ryan Rohrer dribbled the ball down the sideline before sending a low cross into the box. From there, Andrew Dukes sent a one-touch shot past BU keeper Bernie Roell (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) for the first goal of the game at the 12:03 mark.

Neither team would find the back of the net for the remainder of the half as Millersville took a 1-0 lead into halftime. The Huskies were outshot 7-5 in the first half as Roell made four saves.

In the second half both teams would continue the physical play as four yellow cards were served in the half. The Huskies were issued a yellow for a hand-ball in the box which granted Millersville a penalty shot during the 52nd minute. They would come up short on the PK as the attempt hit the cross bar, keeping it a one goal game.

The Marauders would make good on a corner kick opportunity as Eric Pepper delivered a cross into the box where teammate Clark Hebecker would drill a header into the top left corner for a goal. Millersville's goal came during the 84th minute of the game, giving them a 2-0 edge.

In the 87th minute the Huskies would threaten as Nate Conrad (Enola/East Pennsboro) fired a shot to the left upper 90. Marauder keeper Brad Benzing would get a hand on it, deflecting the shot off the cross-bar and out of the net to maintain the two goal lead.

The game came to a close shortly after as the Huskies dropped their second game of the season, 2-0. With the win Millersville improves to 2-0 on the season while the Huskies fall to 0-2, and 0-1 in PSAC play.

Roell finished the contest with six saves while counterpart Benzing kept five shots out of net.

Bloomsburg will look to bounce back as they travel to take on West Chester in PSAC action on Saturday, September 17th. Kick-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
