Box Score Box Score

BLOOMSBURG—Bloomsburg wide receiver Kyle Fisher (Denver/Cocalico) caught five passes for a career high 171 yards and a touchdown to help guide the Huskies to a 20-16 win over the Crimson Hawks of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Tonight's game was televised nationally through the CBS Sports Network.

IUP received the opening kick-off after Bloomsburg won the toss and elected to defer until the second half. The Crimson Hawks opened the game with a 16 play drive that went 71 yards and ate up 8:50 on the game clock. Indiana's Brett Ullman capped the drive by hitting a 26 yarder, giving them a 3-0 lead.

On the ensuing kick-off Kyle Fisher (Denver/Cocalico) would return the ball 27 yards as the Huskies started their first offensive series at their own 36 yard line. After a pair of run attempts that resulted in two positive yards by Franklyn Quiteh (Tobyhanna/Pocono Mountain West), Bloomsburg faced a third and long situation. On third down senior quarterback Pat Carey (Williamsport/Loyalsock Twp.) dropped back in the pocket and delivered a bomb to a streaking Kyle Fisher (Denver/Cocalico) down the right sideline, resulting in a 51 yard gain and a Husky first down.

After three rushing attempts the Huskies would be looking at fourth down from the IUP six yard line. Bloomsburg decided to go for the points as Dan Fisher came in to hit his first field goal of the night from 23 yards out.

Indiana responded quickly to the Bloomsburg score as Jerrell McFadden took the kick-off 90 yards as he weaved in-and-out of BU defenders to put IUP ahead again. Brett Ullman would make good on the extra point, giving the Crimson Hawks a 10-3 lead with just 2:19 to go in the first quarter.

Bloomsburg would go three-and-out on their next possession and be forced to punt the ball away. The Crimson Hawks would then pick up two first downs on their next series before finding themselves in a third and short situation. After an offensive pass interference call and an incomplete pass, IUP would be forced to punt the ball back to the Huskies.

Pinned deep in their own end, the Huskies started their drive at the four yard line. On third down, Carey would again find Fisher deep, this time for 55 yards resulting in first down on the IUP 38. Eddie Mateo (Bethlehem/Freedom) would get the ball on two consecutive rushes but would lose yardage on the carries, bringing up another third and long for the Huskies. With the pocket collapsing, Carey stepped up in the pocket and delivered a strike to a wide open Ryan Dickerson (Harleysville/Souderton) for a 42 yard touchdown pass. Fisher connected on the PAT to tie the game at 10 a piece.

After a pair of possessions resulted in an IUP punt and a Husky punt, the Crimson Hawks threated to score again as the half came to a close. IUP's Ullman attempted a 47 yarder but came up just short, giving the Huskies the ball at their own 30.

Eddie Mateo (Bethlehem/Freedom) opened the Husky series with a 35 yard run, putting the Huskies in great position for a late score. On a third and long Carey dropped back looking for a first down but would be intercepted by IUP's Mark Jackson who ran the ball all the way to the BU 37 yard line. IUP would go for it on a fourth down play but a great interception by Jarrett Pidgeon (Barnegat, NJ/Southern Regional) stalled the Crimson Hawk drive, leading to the end of the first half as the score stood, 10-10.

Both teams would open the second half with short lived offensive series that led to punts. However, the Huskies would put together a scoring drive on their second possession of the half as Dan Fisher connected on a 27 yarder with 8:43 left to play in the third. A big play during the series was a 13 yard run by Carey that ended with a horse-collar penalty that tacked on another 15 yards after the run and a gave BU an automatic first down. Fisher's field goal gave Bloomsburg the slight edge, 13-10.

On Indiana's next possession, Bloomsburg put the pressure on them as Justin Shirk (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) made a sack for a loss of 10 yards in addition to John Pettine (Gilbertsville/Archbishop Carroll) breaking up a pass attempt which forced a punt.

Starting with the ball at their own 28, the Huskies would again go to the air to move the ball. Carey connected with Fisher for another long gain as he hit the wide-out for a 45 yard gain. The drive would conclude as Carey hit Fisher on a fade route for a touchdown in the left side of the end zone from seven yards out. Bloomsburg now owned a 20-10 lead.

Indiana would not go away quietly as the Crimson Hawks put together an 85 yard drive on 14 plays that ate up 5:51 of the clock. The drive came to a close as James Johnson pushed his way into the end zone from one yard out on fourth down. Brett Ullman was unable to connect on the PAT , leading to a 20-16 lead for the Huskies.

After being forced to punt the ball away the Huskies would be on defense for another series. Indiana put together a 25 yard drive that set up a field goal for Ullman. However, a bad snap and muffed hold led to a fumble recovery by Justin Shirk (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) and no points for the Crimson Hawks.

From there neither team was able to put together much offense as both defensive units stepped up to the challenge. Indiana would have their last chance for the win as they started with the ball with just 2:40 to go in the fourth quarter at their own 41 yard line. They would only get as far as the BU 47 before turning the ball over on downs with just one minute left in regulation. The Huskies would take a knee twice before the clock expired, granting them their third win of the season.

Bloomsburg's Kyle Fisher (Denver/Cocalico) ended the game with a career high 171 yards on five catches, one going for a touchdown. Carey would go 9-18 on the game for 235 yards and two touchdowns. The BU running came to a halt as they were limited to just 76 yards on the ground.

Defensively the Huskies were led by the trio of Jarrett Pidgeon (Barnegat, NJ/Southern Regional), Justin Shirk (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin), and Sean Clift (Philadelphia/Roman Catholic). Pidgeon racked up 15 tackles, forced a fumble, and made an interception. Shirk totaled 13 tackles as well as 1.5 sacks, 2.5 tackles for losses, and a fumble recovery. Clift made 11 tackles and recorded .5 sacks.

With the win Bloomsburg remains a perfect 3-0 while IUP drops to 1-1. The Huskies will be back in action next Saturday, September 24th as they host the Marauders of Millersville. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Redman Stadium in Bloomsburg, PA.
