Men's Soccer Earns First Win of 2011

WEST CHESTER—Bloomsburg University's Bryce Shaffer (Gettysburg/Gettysburg) scored the games only goal midway through the second half to lead the Huskies to a 1-0 win over the Golden Rams of West Chester in PSAC play. Today's win was the first for the Huskies on the 2011 season, bringing their record to 1-2 and 1-1 in the PSAC.

Although the Bloomsburg was outshot 9-1 in the first half, the Huskies managed to escape the half without giving up a goal. BU goalie Bernie Roell (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) made seven saves in the first half to keep the game at 0-0.

During the 65th minute of play, Bryce Shaffer (Gettysburg/Gettysburg) scored an unassisted goal to put the Huskies up 1-0. West Chester would up the pressure as they fired away another 14 shots in the second half but Roell was up to challenge as he made eight saves.

Bloomsburg would eventually go on to win the game 1-0. BU's Roell made 15 saves in the contest and Shaffer's goal was his first of the year.

The Huskies will be back in action as they host District of Columbia on Wednesday, September 21st at Sports Stadium in Bloomsburg PA. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
