Men's Soccer Fall in Overtime, 1-0

BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team fell on Wednesday night in overtime against the Firebirds of University of District Columbia, 1-0. WIth the loss the Huskies drop to 1-3 on the season while the Firebirds improve to 4-1-1.

Both teams got off to a slow start, until Bloomsburg came out and got on the offensive attack 12 minutes into play. Bryce Shaffer (Gettysburg, Gettysburg Area) would take a wide shot, followed 35 seconds later by a shot from Nate Conrad (Enola, East Pennsboro). The Firebirds goalkeeper Kyle Heatherington would make the save, keeping the game scoreless.

The Firebirds made multiple running attempts towards the goal, but were called offsides on four occasions. The Huskies outshot UDC 6-3 in the first half, but could not score.

Alex Ruhfass (Newton, Council Rock North) came out early in the second half with a shot, but the ball was sent wide of the net. Both teams remained at even play, each recording five shots in the remainder of regulation time.

The Firebirds would have an opportunity to score early into the first overtime period after a foul was called on the Huskies. Nana Bamfo would hit the top right of the net off a header, after receiving an assist from Tansu Korkmaz to take the victory.

Bloomsburg will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to take Shippensburg in PSAC match-up. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
