JOHNSTOWN – The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team lost to University of Pittsburg-Johnstown (1-0) by a score of 3-2 in their season opener on Saturday afternoon.
The Mountain Cats took an early 1-0 lead 10:28 into the first half when Adam Seitz scored off an assist from Steve Taalov. Pitt-Johnstown added another goal at the 30:28 mark, making the score 2-0.
In the 17
th minute of the game, the Huskies narrowed the score to 2-1 after
James Kiama (Shippensburg, Shippensburg) took a crossing pass from the goal line from
Nate Conrad (Enola, East Pennsboro). The Mountain Cats would be the last to score in the first half on a breakaway, putting the score at 3-1.
The second half of the game was scoreless for almost 23 minutes before the Huskies added another goal, when
Alex Ruhfass (Newton, Council Rock North) scored off a rebound from a penalty kick in the 67
th minute. Bloomsburg unable to tie up the game, the Mountain Cats would take away the win by 3-2.
Goalkeeper
Kyle Pepper (Reading, Exeter) made three saves on the day, while his counterpart Michael Cuccaro stopped seven of the Huskies shots.
The Huskies (0-1) will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 8 at Caldwell College for a 4 pm start.
