EAST STROUDSBURG—
Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to a 76-64 win over East Stroudsburg on Wednesday night.
With the win the Huskies improve to 15-4 on the year, 9-4 in the PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference), while the Warriors fall to 6-10, 3-11 in the PSAC East.
Bloomsburg raced out to 14-10 lead in the first nine minutes of the game, then grabbed control of the game with a 14-2 run over the next four minutes of play.
Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland/Tri-Valley) started the rally with a conventional three-point play and also added two three-pointers with
Brianna Dudeck (Sugarloaf/Hazleton) also draining a three-pointer in the run.
Later the Huskies stretched the lead to 22 points, 36-14, with 3:14 to go before half on three-pointers by Wieller,
Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor) and a bucket by Oxenrider.
East Stroudsburg, trailing by 17 points at halftime, started the second half with a 9-3 run to cut the lead down to 11, 48-37. The Huskies though came back and pushed the lead back to 18 after Wieller drained a three-pointer with 10:44 to go in the game.
After the Warriors once again rallied and cut the deficit to 57-47 after a free throw by Cyara Woodridge, Bloomsburg used a 10-2 run to regain an 18- point lead with 4:35 to play. Wieller and
Catherine Noack (Bethlehem/Liberty) powered the outburst by hitting back-to-back three pointers for the Huskies.
The Warriors did narrow the lead back to 10 points with 25 seconds to play, but Noack was four of four from the foul line in the final seconds to secure the win.
Wieller had a solid all-around game for the Huskies scoring 23 points, grabbing five rebounds and dishing out four assists.
Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor) added 16 points, while Noack added 15 and Oxenrider 13 for Bloomsburg. East Stroudsburg's Andrea Veres scored 17 points to lead the Warriors.
The Huskies return home on Saturday to face Kutztown starting at 1 p.m.
