Shaffer's Two Goals Lift Huskies Past Shippensburg

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg men's soccer team defeated Shippensburg University by a score of 3-2 at Sports Stadium in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PSAC) action Saturday.
 
Bryce Shaffer (Gettysburg/Gettysburg) put the Huskies out on top 2-0 scoring both Bloomsburg goals in the first half. The first goal was a pass up the middle from Matt Cannon (Wrightstown/Council Rock North) to Shaffer who took a one on one against the goalie and kicking it past him with 11:43 on the clock.
 
For Shaffer's second goal Bradley Pratzner (Wallingford/Strath Haven) pitched the ball into the middle of the field finding Shaffer who headed the ball in during the 15th minute putting the Huskies up by two goals. 
 
The Raiders cut the lead in half when they scored in the 42nd minute on a goal by Joe Nixon.
 
Shippensburg tied the game 2-2 late in the second half when Sam Talbot of the Raiders lined up for a penalty kick and shot the ball low left past the Bloomsburg keeper at 76:18.
 
The Huskies answered back one minute later when the ball was bouncing in front of the net and Chris Pawlowski (Philadelphia/LaSalle) punched it in past the Shippensburg goalie to put Bloomsburg back on top.
 
Bernie Roell (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) started in goal for the Huskies and had seven saves to earn the win, while making a crucial save in the first half when he tipped a shot over the goal post.
 
Bloomsburg outshot Shippensburg 20-12, while both teams each had five corner kicks.
 
The Huskies, now 7-6-1, 2-3-1 in the PSAC, host Millersville Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m.


The men's soccer team honored the late Brian Savage during today's game and held "Dogs for Brian III"
