BLOOMSBURG – The 22nd-ranked Bloomsburg University women's basketball team returns from its winter break away from the court to take on Philadelphia University on Sunday, Dec. 30 at the Gallagher Center.
Sunday's game will be broadcast live on WHLM (930-AM) based out of Bloomsburg with Larry White calling all the action. In addition, listeners throughout the world can listen to the game live on BU's website at www.buhuskies.com. The pre-game show will begin 20 minutes before tipoff.
MATCH UP: This is the 16th overall meeting between the Huskies and the Rams. They meet for the first time since the 2010-11 season when Philadelphia earned a 73-68 win on its home floor. The last Huskies win was in the 2009-10 season in which they won on the road, 75-71.
THE LAST TIME: Bloomsburg dropped its first game of the season, falling 73-68 to Philadelphia University. With the game tied at 63-all with 5:44 to play, the Rams scored eight straight points to go back on top 71-63 with 1:44 to go. In the final minute, Philadelphia hit just two of six from the foul line, but the Huskies could not take advantage converting just a three-pointer at the buzzer for the game's five-point final margin.
Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) led the Huskies with 18 points, while
Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) chipped in with 16 and
Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor) 12 for the Huskies. Kate Brennan led the Rams with 23 points, while Kristen Blye scored 15 and Christine Wood 13.
NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT: Bloomsburg is ranked 22nd in this week's USA Today Division II Top 25 poll.
SHARE THE WEALTH: Bloomsburg is third in the PSAC at 16.63 assists per game. BU is assisting on 65.52 percent of its total field goals. It has had 10 or more assists in 39 of its last 40 games. BU had seven assists against Millersville, breaking a streak of 37 straight games.
HIGH SCORING OFFENSE: Bloomsburg is fourth in the PSAC in scoring at 74.3 points per game. It is on pace to break the school-record of 73.4 set last season. BU's 96 points in its win over Wilmington were the most points in a single game since the 2010-11 season when it scored 99 against ESU and 100 against Penn State Schuylkill.
SCORING LEADERS: Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) is the fifth player to eclipse the 1,500-point mark in BU history. Wieller ranks fifth in BU history with 1,577 career points. She needs 84 to move into fourth and tie Michelle Simons.
Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland/Tri-Valley) ranks 18th in school history and needs 19 to tie Holly Curnow for 17th.
WHEELIN' AND DEALIN': Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) is third in the PSAC at 14.9 points per game, and her 17 three-pointers rate third in the conference. Wieller's 281 three-pointers are a Bloomsburg record and third-most in PSAC history. Earlier this season, Wieller had her streak snapped of scoring in double-digits at 23 straight games against Indiana (PA).
MAKE THE EASY ONES: The Huskies lead the PSAC in free throw shooting at 75.1 percent.
Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland/Tri-Valley) (85.2) is third in the PSAC, followed by
Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) (85.0) in fourth.
ATTACK THE GLASS: BU ranks sixth in the PSAC in rebounding at 42 per game. It's 27.8 defensive rebounds per game are 4th in the PSAC.
UNSELFISH PLAY: The Huskies have three seniors on the BU leaderboard in career assists.
Alyssa Flanagan (Freeland/Hazleton Area) rates third with 407 and trails Erin Beggs' mark of 456 by 49.
Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland/Tri-Valley) (14th - 213) and
Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) (15th - 209) also rank in the top 15.
THIS IS HER HOUSE: Lauren Ellis (Bangor/Bangor) ranks 10th in BU history in blocks with 74. She needs three to move into ninth and tie Hilarie Runyon's mark of 77 set in 1983. Ellis had a career-high three rejections in two games last season including BU's PSAC semifinal victory over IUP.
