Wieller Leads Huskies to Win and PSAC East Title

BLOOMSBURG—Dana Wieller (Bethlehem/Liberty) scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Bloomsburg University women's basketball team to a 78-63 win over East Stroudsburg (10-15, 6-14 PSAC East) on Wednesday night in PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) action. With the win the Huskies clinched the PSAC Eastern Division title for the second straight year and the 14th time in school history.
 
Bloomsburg (23-4, 17-4 PSAC East) wasted little time racing out to a double-digit lead. Behind two three-pointers and a bucket from Wieller the Huskies led 15-4 just 3:40 into the game. The Huskies pushed the lead to 18 points, 25-7 going on a 10-2 run with Wieller and Kelsey Gallagher (East Stroudsburg/East Stroudsburg South) both draining three-pointers in the rally.
 
The Huskies lead stayed in double digits for the remainder of the half as Wieller was red-hot from the outside finishing the first half with six three-pointers and 24 total points in the first 20 minutes. Bloomsburg's largest lead of the game came with 4:20 to go before halftime when Wieller's three-pointer made it a 19-point game at 41-22.
 
Leading by 14 points at halftime the Huskies lead stayed in double digits till a mini 5-0 run by the Warriors go them to within nine points at 61-52. East Stroudsburg would later close to within seven points, 63-56, with 7:11 to go in the game, but would get no closer.
 
The Huskies grabbed control of the game down the stretch going on a 12-3 run to get the lead back to 16 points, 75-59 with 2:17 to play. Danielle Derr (Dresner/Upper Dublin) scored six points in the run for Bloomsburg. Kayla Oxenrider (Ashland/Tri-Valley) then finished the game with a three-point play making the final margin of victory 15 points.
 
Head coach Bill Cleary praised the effort of his team that is on a nine-game winning streak.

 “The kids deserve all the credit,” said Cleary. “I feel very fortunate to coach these young ladies. They do a great job each and every day for us.”
 
Wieller finished the game 10 of 19 from the floor and hit seven three-pointers on the night. Along with Wieller's double-digit night, Gallagher finished with 15 points and Derr 10 for the Huskies.
 
East Stroudsburg had four players in double figures led by 14 from Ryanna Fiascki and Jessica Martin.
 
Bloomsburg will close out the regular season on Saturday hosting Millersville at 1 p.m. and will host an opening round playoff game on Tuesday against Shippensburg at a time to be determined.
