Women’s Tennis Downs West Liberty, 6-3

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC—The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team opened their spring break trip with a decisive 6-3 win over West Liberty University.  Emily Palko (McMurray/Peters Township) earned the deciding point in the match with a three set win at second singles. 

Bloomsburg opened the match by taking two of three doubles matches as the Huskies picked up wins at the first and third positions.  Michelle Perez (Center Valley/Southern Lehigh) and Palko teamed up for a close 9-7 win at the first spot while Nicole Slagle (Irwin/Penn Trafford) and Erin Reitenauer (Whitehall/Whitehall) won 8-2 at third doubles.

The Huskies would go up 4-1 as Slagle and Reitenauer earned straight set wins at the fifth and sixth spot respectively.  Slagle was a 7-5, 6-1 winner while Reitenauer dropped just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

West Liberty would make things interesting as they earned back-to-back straight set wins at third and fourth singles, cutting the BU lead to 4-3. 

Palko earned the deciding point at the second spot as she pulled out a close one 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 to give the Huskies their second win of the season.  Perez was also a winner at first singles as she fought back from a set down to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Bloomsburg will look for season win number three as they take on Winston Salem State today in a 3:00 p.m. match.
