WINSTON-SALEM, NC—The Bloomsburg University softball team swept a pair of games from Winston-Salem State on Wednesday by a score by identical scores of 8-0. Game one was called in the sixth inning on the mercy rule with game two called after five innings.
Sam Pientack (Archbald/Valley View) led the way blasting three homers in the twinbill.
In the opener pitcher
Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon) tossed a three-hit shutout to get the win. The Huskies wasted little time jumping out on top in the game. The first three hitters all singled to load the bases with
Chrissy Belko (Old Forge/Old Forge) driving in
Mandi Baer (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) with the first run.
Rachel Fredell (Dingmans Ferry/Delaware Valley) then delivered a bases clearing double to make it 4-0.
Bloomsburg made it 5-0 in the second when
Erika Yanora (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) had a sacrifice bunt RBI, then extended the lead to 7-0 when
Sam Pientack (Archbald/Valley View) hit two-run homer. The Huskies got the eighth run of the game in the sixth when Baer singled and scored on Yanora's single.
Paine was solid striking out six, not issuing a walk and allowing just one batter to reach second.
In game two, the Huskies took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when Pientack drilled a two-run after Baer had singled with one out. The Huskies tacked on five runs in the second inning with Yanora and Baer getting RBI singles and Pientack blasting a three-run homer.
Bloomsburg got its eighth run when Yanora singled home
Raychelle Kuhns (Williamsport/Loyalsock) with two outs in the third.
Mandi Black (Huntington Mills/Northwest Area) earned the win going the distance, allowing just three hits and striking out six.
Pientack finished the twinbill 4-6 with three homers and seven RBI, while Baer went 6-6 with two RBI.
Bloomsburg, 12-4, will play at Fayetteville State on Friday.
