SALEM, VA—The Bloomsburg University softball team split a pair of games on Saturday at the West Virginia Wesleyan Tournament in Salem, Va. The Huskies dropped their opener to West Virginia State, 2-1, then came back to beat Glenville State, 3-0.
In the opener the Huskies gave up two runs in the top of the fourth to fall behind 2-0. Bloomsburg got one back in the bottom of the fourth when
Chrissy Belko (Old Forge/Old Forge) singled, move to second on a bunt and scored a double by
Kayla McHale (Dillsburg/Northern).
Bloomsburg, though, could not push across another run and lost 2-1.
Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon) suffered the loss despite giving up just six hits and striking out seven.
In game two the Huskies beat Glenville State, 3-0. Bloomsburg took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when with two outs
Mandy Leach (Milford/Delaware Valley),
Raychelle Kuhns (Williamsport/Loyalsock), and
Erika Yanora (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) hit consecutive singles with Yanora picking up the RBI.
In the sixth the Huskies tacked on two more runs with McHale, Leach both singling and move up a base on a bunt by Kuhns. Yanora then singled home McHale with Leach coming in on a
Mandi Baer (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) single.
Paine went the distance again for the Huskies to earn the win. She allowed five hits, did not walk a batter and fanned nine.
Sam Pientack (Archbald/Valley View) went 3-4 in the game, while McHale, Yanora and Leach all had two hits.
The Huskies, 15-5, play Fairmont State and Charleston (WV) on Sunday.
