BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team dropped a tight 5-4 match today to visiting Wilkes University (8-0). With the loss Bloomsburg falls to 4-5 on the season.
Michelle Perez (Center Valley/Southern Lehigh) and
Emily Palko (McMurray/Peters Township) were straight set winners in singles playing at the first and second positions respectively. Perez tallied a 6-3, 6-3 win while Palko earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory. However, the Huskies would drop singles matches from third through sixth, entering doubles play trailing 4-2.
Wilkes opened the doubles matches by taking second doubles, clinching their eighth win of the season. Perez and Palko teamed up for a decisive 8-4 win at first doubles. With the set of wins, Perez has now won nine consecutive matches while Palko has won six in a row.
The third doubles team of
Nicole Slagle (Irwin/Penn Trafford) and
Natalie Greenholt (Hanover/South Western) battled their way to a 9-8 win. The duo trailed for most of the match until making a strong push at the end to take in a tiebreaker.
Bloomsburg will be back in action on Friday, March 30th as they host the Marauders of Millersville in PSAC East action. Match-time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in Bloomsburg, PA.
