GAME ONE BOX

GAME TWO BOX

MANSFIELD—Chrissy Belko (Old Forge/Old Forge) drove in three runs to help the 24th-ranked Bloomsburg University softball team to a 5-0 win in game one of its doubleheader with Mansfield University on Friday afternoon. In the nightcap Mansfield beat the Huskies 6-2.

In the opener the Huskies and the Mountaineers were locked in a scoreless battle going to the top of the sixth inning. Raychelle Kuhns (Williamsport/Loyalsock) opened the inning with a single and moved to second on a bunt by Erika Yanora (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock). After Mandi Baer (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) reached on a single and Sam Pientack (Archbald/Valley View) walked to load the bases, Belko followed with a bases loaded double scoring all three runners. After a pop up, Rachel Fredell (Dingmans Ferry/Delaware Valley) doubled scoring Belko to make it 4-0. Hannah Moir (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape ) then reached on a throwing error allowing Fredell to score the fifth run of the inning.

Mansfield had two scoring threats in the game, but came up empty each time. In the fourth the team left two runners on, while in the bottom of the seventh the Mounties had one runner on, but Caitlin O'Connor (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) ended the game with a strikeout to earn the win.

O'Connor threw 4 2/3 innings in relief of Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon) who left with an injury in the third inning. O'Connor allowed just two hits and fanned five in the game.

In the nightcap Mansfield led 1-0 after two innings. In the top of the third the Huskies took the lead when Belko hit a two-run homer to right center making it a 2-1 game.

Mansfield rallied and scored three times in the bottom of the third and tacked on two more in the fifth to lead 6-2. Bloomsburg did get two runners on base in the fifth, but could not score with Mansfield's Caitlin Klobosits retiring the final seven batters of the game to get the win.

Bloomsburg goes to 16-6 on the season, 1-1 in the PSAC Central. The Huskies play at Edinboro on Saturday at 1 p.m.
