BLOOMSBURG—The 24th-ranked Bloomsburg University softball team swept a pair of games on Friday from Philadelphia University winning 6-0 in the opener and 5-4 in the night cap.

In game one the Huskies Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon) allowed just two hits and fanned a career-high 16 in winning for the 10th time this season. Paine was dominant from the start striking out the side in the top of the first and ending the game by fanning the side. She also struck out the side in the third and fifth innings.

Bloomsburg got all the runs it would need in the bottom of the first when Mandi Baer (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) walked to lead off and Erika Yanora (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) and Sam Pientack (Archbald/Valley View) singled to load the bases. Chrissy Belko (Old Forge/Old Forge) then hit a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead with both Yanora and Pientack advancing a base. Yanora then scored on an illegal pitch for a 2-0 lead.

The Huskies added two more runs in the third when Rachel Fredell (Dingmans Ferry/Delaware Valley) doubled scoring Belko with Hannah Moir (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape ) singling to right scoring Fredell for a 4-0 lead. Fredell added an RBI double in the fifth with the sixth run scoring on an error in the bottom of the sixth.

Paine had no-hitter going into the fourth before giving up a one-out hit. The Rams also got a single in the sixth.

In game two the Huskies posted a 5-4 win to make a winner of Mandy Black. The Huskies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Pientack tripled home Baer who had doubled with Pientack later scoring on an error.

Philadelphia rallied and took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third inning and made it 4-2 with run in the fourth. The Huskies tied the score at 4-4. With two outs Yanora tripled and scored on a double by Baer. Pientack then singled home Baer with the tying run.

Bloomsburg went ahead in the bottom of the fifth. Fredell and Kayla McHale (Dillsburg/Northern) singled to lead off the inning and moved to second and third on a bunt. Fredell would then come in to score on a wild pitch beating the throw to the plate.

Black then put down the Rams in order in the sixth and gave up a lead-off single in the seventh. But she got the next three batters in order to get the win.

Pientack went 3-4 in game two with two RBI, while McHale going 3-3.

Bloomsburg improves to 18-6 with the sweep. The Huskies will play home with Shippensburg on Sunday at 1 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was moved to Sunday because of the expected bad weather.
