GAME ONE BOX              GAME TWO BOX

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV—The 18th-ranked Bloomsburg University softball team swept a pair of games from Shepherd University on Tuesday winning by scores of 4-2 and 5-1.

In game one the Huskies took the lead in the top of the third inning scoring three times. Chrissy Belko (Old Forge/Old Forge) and Lyndsay Busler (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley) and Mandy Leach (Milford/Delaware Valley) walked to load the bases with one out. Raychelle Kuhns (Williamsport/Loyalsock) got an infield single scoring Belko with the first run. After a fielder's choice kept the bases loaded, Erika Yanora (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) singled scoring Busler and Leach making it 3-0.

Shepherd got two runs back in the bottom of the fifth before the Huskies got an insurance run in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded Yanora was hit by a pitch forcing in Bloomsburg's fourth run.

In the bottom of the seventh Bloomsburg pitcher Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon) put the Rams down in order to give the Huskies the win.

Yanora finished the game 2-3 with three RBI, while Paine struck out six and allowed just six hits.

In the nightcap Mandi Black (Huntington Mills/Northwest Area) picked up her first collegiate win going the distance in a 5-1 win. Black allowed just four hits and fanned five in the game.

The Huskies got Black all the runs she would need in the first inning. Rachel Fredell (Dingmans Ferry/Delaware Valley) singled in one run, while Belko doubled home a run for a 2-0 lead. Later in the inning Kayla McHale (Dillsburg/Northern) singled past the shortstop to score two runs and a 4-0 first inning lead.

Bloomsburg manufactured a run to make it 5-0 in the top of the third. McHale singled and stole second. Then stole third and came into score on a throwing error on the steal.

Black lost her shutout in the bottom of the fifth when she gave up a run on two hits.

For the game McHale, Sam Pientack (Archbald/Valley View), Mandi Baer (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) and Belko all had two hits.

Bloomsburg, 6-0, will play in Florence, SC for the weekend against Armstrong Atlantic and Queens (NC) University.
