Huskies Clinch First Place in PSAC East

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team (10-6, 6-0 PSAC East) downed the Golden Bears of Kutztown (8-8, 5-1 PSAC East) in a battle of the conference's top two teams.  Bloomsburg swept the doubles matches and lost just one singles match as they cruised to an 8-1 victory.

With the win Bloomsburg wraps-up conference play with a flawless 6-0 conference record and will enter the PSAC team tournament as the East's top team.  Today's win marks Bloomsburg's 23rd straight win over the Golden Bears and ends Kutztown's six match win streak. 

The first doubles combination of Emily Palko (McMurray/Peters Township) and Michelle Perez (Center Valley/Southern Lehigh) pulled out a tight 8-6 win for their 10th straight victory of the season, giving them a  5-0 mark in conference action.  Together this season they are 11-3, matching last year's record, giving them a career record together of 22-6.

At second doubles, the senior/freshman duo of Danielle Walsh (Fairfield, CT/St. John The Baptist) and Erin Reitenauer (Whitehall/Whitehall) breezed through their opponents, winning 8-1.  Meanwhile, Natalie Greenholt (Hanover/South Western) and Nicole Slagle (Irwin/Penn Trafford) teamed up for a nail-biting win at the third position, 9-7.  Greenholt and Slagle wrap-up conference play without dropping a match, going 5-0 in PSAC East play. 

In singles action, Bloomsburg took five of six matches to earn an 8-1 win.  At first single Perez picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory giving her nine wins in her last 10 matches.  Walsh was a straight set winner at third singles, winning 6-1, 6-2 while Greenholt handled her opponent at the four spot, 6-0, 6-1. 

Slagle pulled out a 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 win at fifth singles, giving her five singles victories on the season.  Rounding out singles play at sixth singles was Reitenauer as she earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory.  She now owns a 9-3 singles record this season and along with Walsh, a perfect 5-0 record in PSAC East play.  

The Huskies will be back in action this weekend as they participate in the Bloomsburg University Duals.  The BU netters are scheduled to take on Charleston Saturday, April 14th in a 9:30 a.m. match.
