BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University softball team dropped a doubleheader to Lock Haven on Friday in a PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) Central Division matchup. The Huskies lost by scores of 3-0 and 5-2.
In game one the Huskies
Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon) was outdueled by Lock Haven's Sarah Morse. Morse allowed just four hits in getting the win. The Lady Eagles scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
The Huskies best chance to score came in the bottom of the sixth when, with one out,
Erika Yanora (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) and
Sam Pientack (Archbald/Valley View) each singled with
Rachel Fredell (Dingmans Ferry/Delaware Valley) walking to load the bases. But Morse was able to induce a 1-2-3 double play to end the inning.
In game two, Lock Haven jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Huskies though rallied and tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the first. With two outs, Pientack singled and Fredell walked. Both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch.
Hannah Moir (Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape ) then singled home both runners to tie the game at 2-2.
The Huskies threatened again in the bottom of the fourth getting two runners on with one out. However, pitcher Nicole Smith worked out of the jam and kept the game tied at 2-2.
Lock Haven took the lead in the top of the sixth scoring three runs on three hits. The big hit in the inning was a hard hit one hopper that went past Yanora at shortstop and went all the way to the fence in left center off the bat of Chelsea Edwards driving in the go-ahead run.
Moir finished the game 3-3 for the Huskies and drove in both runs.
Bloomsburg goes to 30-12, 9-5 in the PSAC Central, while Lock Haven improves to 23-16, 7-5 in the PSAC. The Huskies play at Clarion on Saturday at 1 p.m.
