BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's tennis team (11-8, 6-0 PSAC East) earned a third place finish in the PSAC Championships as they blanked the Golden Bears of Kutztown (9-11, 5-1 PSAC East), 5-0 in today's consolation match.
Bloomsburg jumped out to a 3-0 lead as the Huskies swept the doubles matches.
Emily Palko (McMurray/Peters Township) and
Michelle Perez (Center Valley/Southern Lehigh) tallied an 8-3 win at the number one spot. Together they are 13-4 on the season and have 12 of their last 13.
Erin Reitenauer (Whitehall/Whitehall) and
Danielle Walsh (Fairfield, CT/St. John The Baptist) teamed up for an 8-4 win at second doubles while
Natalie Greenholt (Hanover/South Western) and
Nicole Slagle (Irwin/Penn Trafford) earned an 8-2 victory at the third position. Bloomsburg's sweep of the doubles matches is their fourth of the season.
Needing just two wins in the singles matches for the team win, Bloomsburg's Greenholt and Reitenauer came through for the Huskies to clinch the victory. Greenholt was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at fourth singles while Reitenauer posted a 6-2, 6-0 showing at the sixth spot.
With the conclusion of the consolation match, the 2012 PSAC Championships also comes to an end as the individual portion of the tournament was cancelled due to inclement weather conditions. However, Bloomsburg will be back on the courts for a 4:00 p.m. home match against Bucknell University on Wednesday, April 25th.
