Bloomsburg Sweeps Clarion in Softball

CLARION—The Bloomsburg University softball team rolled over Clarion University on Sunday winning by scores of 20-0 in five innings and 8-0 in six innings.
 
In game one Sam Pientack (Archbald/Valley View) 3-5 and drove in four runs to lead Bloomsburg to the win. The Huskies scored two runs in the first, then added four in the second, six in third and then eight in fifth for a total of 20 runs. The 20 runs were the most for the Huskies since scoring 21 back on March 25, 2008 in a 21-0 win over Bowie State.
 
With the Huskies leading 4-0 in the top of the second, Pientack hit her 16th homer of the season to make it a 6-0 lead. In the third Bloomsburg's Mandi Bear had a two-run single, while in the fifth pinch-hitter Caitlin O'Connor (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) hit a bases clearing triple to drive in three runs with Pientack finishing the scoring with an RBI single.
 
Cait Paine (Lebanon/Lebanon) allowed just one hit and struck out six in four innings, while Mandi Black (Huntington Mills/Northwest Area) pitched the fifth with one strikeout.
 
In game two Pientack and Rachel Fredell (Dingmans Ferry/Delaware Valley) each drove in two runs and Paine threw a three-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts in the victory.
 
The game was scoreless in the top of the third when Fredell put down a squeeze bunt to score Baer with the first run. In the fourth Kayla McHale (Dillsburg/Northern) tripled home Mandy Leach (Milford/Delaware Valley) to make it 2-0. In the fifth the Huskies scored three times with Fredell getting an RBI single.
 
In the sixth inning Pientack hit a two-run triple, the scored the game's eighth run on a passed ball.
 
The wins put the Huskies into a three-way tie for first place with Lock Haven and IUP in the PSAC Central Division with an 11-5 mark. Lock Haven won the tie-breaker and will be the top seed for the PSAC playoffs which start on Wednesday with the seeding for the Huskies and IUP to be determined.
 
Bloomsburg finishes the regular season with a record of 32-12.
